Opill, the first federally approved Over-The-Counter birth control medication for menstruators around the USA, has been approved for distribution both online and in retail pharmacies near you! Opill is a progestin-only birth control pill, which means it contains only one hormone. This makes it safe for many individuals who are unable to take combination pills such as those with high blood pressure, chronic migraines, or who are perimenopausal. The oral contraceptive has a 98% effectiveness rate with proper use (taking the pill every day at the same time each day).

Opill is easy to obtain with no medical provider or insurance required. This oral contraceptive allows menstruators around the country to have a peace of mind while continuing to be sexually active. According to a study on access to contraceptives, "1/3 of adult women who have tried to get a prescription or refill for a birth control pill, patch or ring have had trouble or were unable to get their next supply in time”. Inconsistent insurance coverage and sudden life changes could make an OTC birth control pill the most accessible option for those interested in taking birth control. Opill however, is not a replacement for condoms as it does not protect against STDs, and it should not replace a medical provider. You should still see a doctor for regular gynecologic screenings and to report any and all abnormal symptoms while taking Opill.
